Penn State Scranton Welcomes Alahnna Balbach as New Head Women’s Volleyball Coach
DUNMORE, Pa. – Penn State Scranton is proud to announce the hiring of Alahnna Balbach as the new head coach of the women's volleyball program. A familiar face to the Nittany Lion community, Balbach brings both passion and pride to the role as a former standout student-athlete and a dedicated member of the local Northeastern Pennsylvania community.
Balbach is a 2024 graduate of Penn State and a former dual-sport athlete at Penn State Scranton, where she excelled on both the volleyball and women's basketball teams, earning her campus Player of the Year in her senior season. Her collegiate career also included a championship season with the Penn State Schuylkill women's basketball team, contributing to their Penn State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) title run.
In addition to her athletic achievements, Alahnna has continued to build a meaningful life rooted in service and education. She currently works as a direct support professional, providing care and assistance to individuals with disabilities, and is pursuing post-graduate studies in physical therapy.
Now, as she steps into her role as head volleyball coach, Balbach brings a deep commitment to rebuilding and revitalizing the women's volleyball program at her alma mater. With the 2025 season on the horizon, Coach Balbach is already laying the groundwork for the program's future, aiming to recruit and mentor athletes who share her commitment to excellence, education, and community.
