Baseball Team Ends an Era on Campus Field with A Victory
Thirty years ago this month , April 13, 1984, Penn State Scranton's Baseball team under Head Coach Jeff Mallas won a double header against Misericordia 12-9 and 14-2 on its brand new field. Today, the baseball team under Coach Plevyak ended play on that same field with a win in the rain against PSU Hazleton 8-7.
Coach Mallas, now Athletic Director, watched the game from the dugout recalling the first wins on the field where winning pitchers Tom Owens and Jerry Kincel held off Misericordia. Today, pitchers Manny Balines and Tyler Patchoski held off Hazleton while senior Casey Ware went three for three with three runs scored. In the game, Sophomore Alex Terrery went yard hitting a home run in the first inning to cut PSU Hazletons three run lead to one. Later, Zach Holod hit an RBI double scoring senior Casey Ware to tie the game at four in the third. In the fourth, Freshman Ryan Mason hit a double, Ware hit a single scoring Mason and Zach Holod and Sal Martarano followed suit hitting in Terrery and Ware to seal the win. Due to rain the game came to a close in the 5th after Coviello stepped on third for the third out before the umpires called it.
Renovations on the PSWS fields will begin this summer and a new baseball and softball field will start a new era on campus!
